This is a macro of the previous shroom. The cracking patterns reminded me of the geography lesson about continents drifting apart but used to be one whole large island called the pangea.

Fossil evidence for Pangaea includes the presence of similar and identical species on continents that are now great distances apart. For example, fossils of the therapsid Lystrosaurus have been found in Gandu, South Africa, India and Australia, alongside members of the Glossopteris flora, whose distribution would have ranged from the polar circle to the equator if the continents would have been in their present position; similarly, the freshwater reptile Mesosaurus has only been found in localized regions of the coasts of Brazil and West-Africa.^[5]

Additional evidence for Pangaea is found in the geology of adjacent continents, including matching geological trends between the eastern coast of South America and the western coast of Africa.

A macro shot of the gills from a bottom angle. The blotches of lights that passes thorough the between the leaves of the tree on top gives some very exiting blur and colour to the image.

Mushroom Gills are the technical term for the thin flaps that resemble fish-gills under the cap of a mushroom. They aren't there to help the mushroom breathe: rather, they are there to produce the spore (seeds, if you will) for the mushroom.

Not all mushrooms have gills under the cap: some have pores instead.

The area on a mushroom where the spores are produced, whether it is gills or pores or otherwise, is called generically the "Hymenophore".

As we head over to the South Lawn to get more of mushroom photos. This photo was quite challenging in the sense that the mushroom itself is small and so low and the soil was also quite damp. So I had to do a rough focus and composition and peering through the viewfinder a few centimeters away.

Some mushrooms are generically called "gill fungi." Beneath their caps are hundreds of flat, vertical partitions radiating like spokes of a wheel from the center of the cap (top and right). On either side of each gill lie microscopic sporangia that produce the even-tinier spores. In other mushrooms, the cap's underside resembles a fine sponge (below). These are "pore fungi," in which spores emanate from sporangia within tiny holes under the cap. The size of these holes varies from species to species, as may the color and overall texture.

In all types of mushrooms, spores may be either light and dry, or somewhat sticky. As dry spores ripen, gravity pulls them from the sporangia and they fall directly to the forest floor or are carried away from the parent mushroom by wind or water. Sticky spores tend to get moved to another locale when they adhere to insects. Since mature mushrooms often smell rotten, they can attract beetles and flies that lay their eggs in the cap. The resulting grubs or maggots may transport the spores, as may the more mobile adults they eventually become.

In the mid-18th century the French physician Pierre Fauchard (credited as the father of modern dentistry) witnessed and treated several dental deformities very common among citizens in Paris during the pre-revolutionary France. Historians believe that two different men deserve the title of being called "the Father of Orthodontics." One man was Norman W. Kingsley, a dentist, writer, artist, and sculptor, who wrote his "Treatise on Oral Deformities" in 1880. Kingsley's writings influenced dental science greatly. Also deserving credit is dentist J. N. Farrar, who wrote two volumes entitled "A treatise on the Irregularities of the teeth and their corrections". Farrar was very good at designing brace appliances, and he was the first to suggest the use of mild force at timed intervals to move teeth.

The American dentist Edward Angle is also widely regarded as a father of modern orthodontics. Practising in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, his eponymous classification of dental arch relationships is used worldwide. His textbook, "Treatment of Malocclusion of the Teeth" was first published in 1887. It went into seven much revised editions and laid the foundation of the modern specialty. After tenure as professor of orthodontics in two medical schools, he went on to found his School of Orthodontia in 1910. He designed several fixed orthodontic appliance systems including the ribbon arch and then the edgewise appliance. This has evolved into the sophisticated pre-adjusted and self-ligating systems used by the great majority of orthodontists today.

A zombie is a reanimated human corpse. Stories of zombies originated in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodou, which told of the dead being raised as workers by a powerful sorcerer. Zombies became a popular device in modern horror fiction, largely because of the success of George A. Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.

There are several possible etymologies of the word zombie. One possible origin is jumbie, the West Indian term for "ghost".^[1] Another is nzambi, the Kongo word meaning "spirit of a dead person."^[1] According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the etymology is from the Louisiana Creole or Haitian Creole zonbi, of Bantu origin.^[2] A zonbi is a person who is believed to have died and been brought back to life without speech or free will.^[3] It is akin to the Kimbundu nzúmbe ghost. These words are approximately from 1871.^[2]

Bob the Killer Goldfish is a fictional villain in the Earthworm Jim video games and animated series. He is featured as a boss in all three of the console games. Bob, being just a goldfish, rides around in a small glass bowl and gets his feline minions, particularly Number Four, to do all the work for him. In the cartoon series, his home planet is La Planeta De Agua (Arriba!) and he wants Earthworm Jim's supersuit so that he can have legs, as well as 'a nice, big, juicy, worm soup to eat'.

That's the chant that went on and on during the zombie shuffle.

Like most other internal organs, the brain can serve as nourishment. For example, in the Southern United States canned pork brain in gravy can be purchased for consumption as food. This form of brain is often fried with scrambled eggs to produce the famous "Eggs n' Brains".^[11] The brain of animals also features in French cuisine such as in the dish tête de veau, or head of calf. Although it sometimes consists only of the outer meat of the skull and jaw, the full meal includes the brain, tongue, and glands. Similar delicacies from around the world include Mexican tacos de sesos made with cattle brain as well as squirrel brain in the US South.^[12] The Anyang tribe of Cameroon practiced a tradition in which a new tribal chief would consume the brain of a hunted gorilla while another senior member of the tribe would eat the heart.^[13] Indonesian cuisine specialty in Minangkabau cuisine also served beef brain in a gravy coconut milk named gulai otak (beef brain curry). Roasted or fried goat brain is eaten in south India and some parts of north India. Norwegian cuisine includes smalahove where a singed lamb's head, including the brain, tongue and eye, serves two people.

Consuming the brain and other nerve tissue of animals is not without risks. The first problem is that the makeup of the brain is 60% fat due to large quantities of myelin (which itself is 70% fat) insulating the axons of neurons.^[14] As an example, a 140 g can of "pork brains in milk gravy", a single serving, contains 3500 milligrams of cholesterol, 1170% of our recommended daily intake.^[15]

Jigsaw puzzles were originally created by painting a picture on a flat, rectangular piece of wood, and then cutting that picture into small pieces with a jigsaw, hence the name. John Spilsbury, a London mapmaker and engraver, is credited with commercialising jigsaw puzzles around 1760^[1]. Jigsaw puzzles have since come primarily to be made on cardboard.

There are also three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles. Many of these are made of wood or styrofoam and require the puzzle to be solved in a certain order; some pieces will not fit in if others are already in place. Also common are puzzle boxes: simple three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles with a small drawer or box in the center for storage.

Another type of jigsaw puzzle, a kind of cross between 2-D and 3-D puzzles, is a puzzle globe. Like a 2-D puzzle, a globe puzzle is often made of cardboard and the assembled pieces form a single layer. Like a 3-D puzzle, the final form is a three-dimensional shape. This is a shot of Ian. Not patriotism of like "US" patriotic kind but its more of like "Canon" patriotism. See how proud he was holding his Canon 30D.

In June 1934 they released their first camera, the Kwanon (see "Origins of company name" below). Three variations of this product were marketed, however, none were actual products. Of the ten Kwanon cameras that were rumored to be produced, none were ever known to reach the market.

The new company was off to a good start. However, there was a problem: Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory had not developed a lens. Several alternatives were considered, but the decision was made to seek help from a corporation known as Nippon Kogaku Kogyo (Japan Optical Industries, Inc., the predecessor of Nikon) to use their Nikkor lens. So in February 1936, the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory was able to release the "Hansa Canon (Standard Model with the Nikkor 50 mm f/3.5 lens)", which became Kwanon's first commercially available camera.

The following year the company name was changed to Canon to reflect a more modern image, and on 10 August 1937, the current corporation was founded.^[1]

This one was up at the Hanging rocks site. The "mountain" of rocks spurring up were more than these but were not able to be captured in one photo unless I had a wider lens.

The title was influenced by the way how it sounds rather than what it means.

A tandoor is a cylindrical clay oven used in Transcaucasus, the Balkans, the Middle East, Central Asia, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, in which food is cooked over a hot charcoal fire. Temperatures in a tandoor can approach 480°C (900°F), and it is common for tandoor ovens to remain lit for long periods of time to maintain the high cooking temperature. The tandoor design is something of a transitional form between a makeshift earth oven and the horizontal-plan masonry oven, and is used almost exclusively for live-fire, radiant heat cooking.

Tandoor is used for cooking certain types of Indian, Irani, and Pakistani food, such as tandoori chicken and bread varieties like tandoori roti and naan. (The word tandoori is the adjective form.) It is also known as a tonir in Armenian which is a widely used method of cooking barbecue and lavash bread. In Georgia it is called a tone and is used for bread and kebab.

We adventorously entered this cave to see what's in there. Well, Some large rocks that interlocked with each other and an end that leads to an exit at the other side. The thought of that small crack will tighly close up all the gaps between the rocks longers as we snapped out Canons off.

Melbourne's so foggy these few days. Plane cancelled, me not being able to see the streets below from the 29th floor. Well, I grab a picture when there was very little fog. I planned to take the sunset but i missed it. But a pleasant surprise was that The lights after sunset is nicer (dark dark blue sky). The fog that blankets the building give a nice warm orang halo around the city. Took a couple of exposure (longest of about 90sec) and then combined them with photoshop. Used old square masking technique. Photomatix fail me this time.

The magnification of a magnifying glass depends on where it is placed between the user's eye and the object being viewed, and the total distance between the eye and the object. Magnifying glasses are typically described in terms of their magnifying power, which is equivalent to angular magnification (this should not be confused with optical power, which is a different quantity). The magnifying power is the ratio of the sizes of the images formed on the user's retina with and without the lens.^[2] For the "without" case, it is typically assumed that the user would bring the object as close to the eye as possible without it becoming blurry. This point, known as the near point, varies with age. In a young child it can be as close as 5 cm, while in an elderly person it may be as far as one or two metres. Evelynn's photo was originally very very underexposed. It was lit using one hot light at a low shutter speed. The raw file was overexposed that results in the noisinest. I further add more noise effect to the picture to further exaggerate them and makes the photo a category of its own. Not smooth and rich in colours like those in the magazine, but dark, pale and full of noise like some old photographs.

The cello is typically made from wood, although other materials such as carbon fibre or aluminum may be used. A traditional cello has a spruce top, with maple for the back, sides, and neck. Other woods, such as poplar or willow, are sometimes used for the back and sides. Less expensive cellos frequently have tops and backs made of laminated wood.

The top and back are traditionally hand-carved, though less expensive cellos are often machine-produced. The sides, or ribs, are made by heating the wood and bending it around forms. The cello body has a wide top bout, narrow middle formed by two C-bouts, and wide bottom bout, with the bridge and sound holes just below the middle.

The top and back of the cello has decorative border inlay known as purfling.

Cello manufacturer Luis & Clark constructs cellos from carbon fiber. Carbon fiber cellos are particularly suitable for outdoor playing because of the strength of the material and its resistance to humidity and temperature fluctuations.

What i really like about this picture is the "contrast". Not only that the picture is quite extreme in the white to the black, but the shadow falling on Yu Han's is "contrasting" too. The nose, the little glimpse of light that lit his left eye, and his lips.

The guitar dude is playing to his heart content. I love the way how the light falls onto the guitar and the mystery that the picture hide.

An acoustic guitar is one not dependent on an external device to be heard but uses a soundboard which is a wooden piece mounted on the front of the guitar's body. The acoustic guitar is quieter than other instruments commonly found in bands and orchestras so when playing within such groups it is often externally amplified. Many acoustic guitars available today feature a variety of pickups which enable the player to amplify and modify the raw guitar sound.

Meter Me

This is Glen holding a light meter during our previous studio shooting. His eyes contains a lot of expression within. With his white shirt and short hair, they just gave the picture a very clean and neat look.

A light meter is a device used to measure the amount of light. In photography, a light meter is often used to determine the proper exposure for a photograph. Typically a light meter will include a computer, either digital or analogue, which allows the photographer to determine which shutter speed and f-number should be selected for an optimum exposure, given a certain lighting situation and film speed.

There are two general types of light meters: reflected-light and incident-light. Reflected-light meters measure the light reflected by the scene to be photographed. All in-camera meters are reflected-light meters. Reflected-light meters are calibrated to show the appropriate exposure for “average” scenes. An unusual scene with a preponderance of light colors or specular highlights would have a higher reflectance; a reflected-light meter taking a reading would incorrectly compensate for the difference in reflectance and lead to underexposure.

This addition of his thick black rim spectacles add the fun to the picture. The picture makes his Nikon D200 to looks like a Nikon D2H.

My model, Fei, shot with another unflattering angle. This was shot with Fei's Canon EF-S 10- 22mm Lens @ 10mm. The depth of field of such a wide lens is deep and the distortion is very fun to play with. Maybe a drawing of his caricature can watch with the distortion of this lens.

Another picture taken with an extension tube. This time even more macro than before. Amazingly, this shot was hand held. Thanks to the strong sunlight, but also, thanks to it, it blown the details on the tip of the flower. The title is not referring to how much this little flower amazingly needs to absorb the sunlight to produce this picture. Rather, it's reminds me again of a solar farm where all the little "leaves" acts as the mirror to shine the sunlight to the center core where water is heated into steam in Spain.

Europe's first commercial concentrating PS10 solar power tower is operating near the sunny southern Spanish city of Seville. The 11 megawatt solar power tower produces electricity with 624 large movable mirrors called heliostats.^[1] The mirrors were delivered by Abengoa, the solar receiver was designed and built by Tecnical-Tecnicas Reunidas, a Spanish Engineering Company; and the Solar Tower was designed and built by ALTAC ^[2], another Spanish Engineering and Construction Company.

Each of the mirrors has a surface measuring 120 square meters (1,292 square feet) that concentrates the Sun's rays to the top of a 115 meter (377 foot) high, 35-story tower where a solar receiver and a steam turbine are located. The turbine drives a generator, producing electricity.^[1] This power is three times more expensive than power from conventional sources, but prices will fall, as they have with wind power, as the technologies develop. ^[3]

Reason was to introduce the power of that simple hollow tube can do to over the physical design of that lens. The flower reminds me of a brush that my maid used to use when I was small to clean the water bottle. Using nature as a daily application.

Another shot of a toddler with his mouth still dirty with food. I do not know his name, but any chubby Caucasian kid will be called Jack in the movie. This one even has a little red pimple.

A Look of Despair

A continuation of the same boy from the picture "Raincoat Boy". This time, the boy had turned around and of course so had I. I had chosen this picture from all the other picture because of two things. One is his expression, and another, because of his upward looking face, it causes the light to fall on his nose bridge and a little on his eyes. All the other picture that had his face looking ahead makes the shadow to fall very awkwardly.

While I was strolling back reluctantly for lunch, I saw this young Chinese boy. What interest me was also his sad expression. Almost everyone else there is happy, enjoying the beautiful flowers, but not him.

Grief is a multi-faceted response to loss. Although conventionally focused on the emotional response to loss, it also has physical, cognitive, behavioral, social and philosophical dimensions. Common to human experience is the death of a loved one, whether it be a friend, family, or other close companion. While the terms are often used interchangeably, bereavement often refers to the state of loss, and grief to the reaction to loss. Losses can range from loss of employment, pets, status, a sense of safety, order or possessions to the loss of the people nearest to us. Our response to loss is varied and researchers have moved away from conventional views of grief (that is, that people move through an orderly and predictable series of responses to loss) to one that considers the wide variety of responses that are influenced by personality, family, culture, and spiritual and religious beliefs and practices.

Maybe it's the irony of the title that makes me wonder more about photography. Is taking a picture of someone dark in a brightly lit scene hard? I guess the answer is yes. Either you get the face exposure right and blow out the other parts of the picture or underexposed face in a just-nice-exposed scenery.
